Why it costs what it costs
Every thread is tied and dyed before it meets the loom.
In Sambalpuri bandha, the pattern is not printed on the cloth. Weavers tie and dye each bundle of yarn by hand so the motif forms as it is woven — which is why the edges look softly feathered, and why both sides of the fabric carry the design. A cotton saree takes one to three weeks; a double-ikat silk can take a month.
We buy directly from weaver clusters in Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi and Koraput, so more of what you pay reaches the loom.
